Title: To my mother and granmother: Azalea, Three Times

Azalea, Three Times On the same branch, leaves still learning the light, petals already spent, and buds waiting with their mouths closed. What appears singular is quietly composed of many, holding its inheritance tenderly. To look closely is to feel this softness: one body carrying several lives, resting together, without needing to be resolved.

Niloufar Salimi's art is deeply rooted in her personal and cultural experiences. Born in Shiraz, Iran, she moved to Canada at the age of twenty and studied both Math and Fine Arts. Her work often reflects the cultural identity and pressures of her upbringing, as well as her own personal journey as an immigrant. Salimi's art practice is characterized by the use of water-based materials like ink and watercolor, and she often weaves, folds, or cuts paper into pieces, making it a central subject of her work. Her art is not only a reflection of her cultural identity but also a way to explore the ever-changing nature of identity and the human experience. Michael Gibson Gallery Salimi's work has been recognized with multiple Ontario Arts Council Grants, and she continues to engage with her audience through various exhibitions and workshops. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to connect with the audience through her art make her a notable figure in contemporary art.
