Liane’s art journey began at an early age with a passion for textiles, interior design, photography and fashion. Eventually her dreams of an art-focused lifer were put on hold as a legal career and family intervened. Her keen eye for photographic composition led her to drawing and painting the subjects of her photographs. And now, after over 20 years of fitting in an art education at every opportunity, Liane is now pursuing her passion for painting full time. Over the years, her work has reflected the richness of her life experience and travels, often focusing in on a carefully selective narrative or vignette. Rich in texture, colour and meaning, her paintings are imbued with a sense of fusion between the past and the present. Her figurative paintings are glimpses of everyday human activity, whether set in an outdoor market, horse races, or a quiet moment on a beach, each giving a distinct impression of the character and mood of the scene. The objects of her attention are often reflective of a time gone by, whether a scene of laundry on a clothes-line drying in the breeze, a reflection of a rusted lock on a barn door or a neglected vintage sign. Along her journey, Liane started working with Acrylic Gouache and immediately fell in love with its richly saturated colours and Matt finish. The quick drying characteristics of the paint caused her to paint in a more rapid and intuitive way which has resulted in a body of work that has a spontaneous quality to it that is both exuberant and playful. Liane’s hope is that her paintings are imbued with a sense of joy that will have a universal appeal.
