Kamelia Pezeshki was born in Urmia, Iran in 1963. As a young girl she moved to the United States in 1979 with her family. Similar to other immigrants who keep moving in search of yet another home, she moved a few times before settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. There she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Utah with emphasis in Photography. Her photographs are included in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts permanent collection. After artistic accomplishments in Utah, she made another life changing decision. This time she moved to Toronto, Canada in 1996 where she resides and continues to use film cameras and alternative processes to make photographs. __ Artist statement: My mother's red nasturtiums Last year I bought this nasturtium from my local farmer's market. The woman farmer warned me it's only going to live a couple of more weeks. Even a year later with a bit of water, light and care it has been thriving. I have memories of nasturtium as it was one of my mother’s favourite plants. It's been years since my mother passed. Now I am wondering if our mother earth is on its way to die. Pay attention to this delicate plant and how its thin veins are supporting the trumpet like fowers and elegant circular leaves; attesting to life and light, to care and kindness, and to hope. The strength of our environment, similar to this photographic representation of nasturtium, is embedded in its fragile nature.
