Gavin Lynch _ Lot # 16
Bau-Xi Art Gallery
Title: Waking
About this piece: “Waking” is from a body of work that explored notions of what I call “ambient grammars” ~ pictorial conventions that exist recur throughout the history of landscape painting. Although many of these works depict scenes close to my home in rural Quebec, the images are less concerned with the depiction of a specific place, and rather survey how we depict the ephemeral in nature.
Dimensions: 10" x 8"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas over panel

Gavin Lynch explores landscape with a contemporary point of view, drawing from environmentally aware fiction, art history, and nature itself. The artist challenges the traditional notion of landscape painting by approaching each work with a digitally informed, collage-like approach. By using opposing visual and textural qualities, Lynch creates a layered and nuanced canvas that plays with dualities of structure. The artist looks to climate change and the inherent destruction of our natural environment through seascapes and forest scenes.
