Artist Kathryn Macnaughton is a music lover, vintage magazine collector, and a deep soul. She successfully fuses provocative images, abstract shapes and forms, and bodacious illustrations into a fluid and exciting contemporary mash-up of visuals. She paints, she draws, she does collage, and she seamlessly incorporates digital elements into her mix. Macnaughton’s abstract paintings are compositional and textural experiments in acrylic paint. They are also canvases of contradiction: at once contemporary and timeless, flat and sculptural, compiled and uniform, static and unmistakably alive.
Inspired by collage, cut-outs, vintage palettes, and digital illustration, Macnaughton’s paintings respond to—and inform—the many and converging concerns of the moment: permanence, fragments, and history and its ephemera. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design University, Macnaughton has exhibited in London, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver. In 2018, her work was featured in solo shows at Beers London Gallery (UK) and Bau-Xi Gallery (Toronto), where she is represented.
