Jean-Luc Lindsay
A graduate of OCAD University, Jean-Luc Lindsay is a painter whose practice explores themes of collection and memory. Fascinated by the commonplace and the value of everyday happenings, Lindsay finds particular significance in found objects or personal documentation. His paintings depict people’s wall decorations, album photography, and found objects such as discarded doors, subway tickets or cigarette packs. In the painting created for Art Gems, Lindsay depicts with painstaking accuracy an open refrigerator door, which functions as a fragment of a personal, collective diary entry. As the artist aptly states, “I am interested in stories made of middles, in the poetry hidden away in banality, in the things we say through how we live.”
