David Blackwood (1941-2022) is one of Canada’s most beloved, collected, and celebrated artists. Though known primarily for his copper plate etchings, Blackwood also produced drawings, watercolours, oil paintings, and mixed media constructions over his six decade career. His work focused on the Wesleyville, Newfoundland of his childhood, and resulted in an irreplaceable and epic monument to a time, place, and way of life.
Established in 1978, Heffel is Canada’s art market leader, with galleries in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, and Calgary. In addition to hosting live and online auctions throughout the year as Canada’s largest and most successful fine art auction house, Heffel also proudly represents the work of a select group of artists and artist estates, including the David Blackwood Studio, the Estate of Betty Goodwin, the Estate of Joe Fafard, Dorothy Knowles, Ross Penhall, and Barry Ace.
